How the estimate works
The quiz applies the modeled seller-side or buyer-side rate for the platform you picked to your monthly amount, rounds that monthly fee to the cent, and multiplies it by twelve. Upwork uses a 10% freelancer example and the Basic client maximum.
- Fiverr: a 20% seller commission plus a 5.5% buyer fee.
- Upwork: 10% example; actual fee is 0–15% per contract, plus up to 7.99% client fee on Basic (3% when a qualifying U.S. client pays by bank account). Upwork’s separate one-time contract initiation fee ($0.99 to $14.99) and any taxes are excluded from these figures.
- Toptal: no seller fee but a markup on rates. The calculators model the markup at 20% of the billed amount on the seller side and show no separate buyer fee.
- Freelancer.com: a 10% project fee plus a 3% client fee.
- GoHireHumans: Workers receive the listed payout. Employers pay a 1% platform fee plus a fixed 3% processing charge where checkout is configured.
